The famous Fairy Pools are located in Glen Brittle on the Isle of Skye. This is a fantastic trail, and there are magical pools and small waterfalls around every corner. You will want to come with an adventurous spirit as the trail is not particularity well-marked beyond the pools. 

The trail begins by winding along the banks of Allt Coir' a' Mhadaidh, with its icy water and waterfalls fed from the surrounding Cuillin Mountains. This is a clear undulating path with no difficulties and only short boggy sections that would require waterproof hiking shoes. 

After passing the Fairy Pools, a very popular spot on Skye, you should lose some of the crowds as you continue climbing up into the hillside beside the river. Enjoy the beautiful views of the mountains and surrounding area as you make your way along. 

It is said that selkies (mythological beings based on seal folk, typical of Scottish folklore) are attracted to these fairy pools and transform into their human form at night to bathe in the light of the full moon. 

The small path that will be found to the left, traversing the rocky slope of Bruach na Frithe at the middle section of this trail at Coire na Creiche, can be difficult to spot, so keep your eyes open for the trail. Take care with navigation at this point and footing over the rougher and boggy terrain. 

Coire na Creiche was the site of the last battle fought between the MacDonalds and the MacLeods. 

The trail then turns left again at Bealach a' Mhaim and descends beside Allt a' Mhaim, returning to the car park. Take care on the rough, rocky, and boggy sections of this trail, especially in wetter conditions when the paths become more difficult. Appropriate, waterproof footwear is required. 

Parking fees are required to access the Fairy Pools car park. There is very limited signal at the trailhead so downloading the map before arriving is strongly advised.
